Hw #6

I don't know how videos work or how to use the technology to make one, so this may turn out really bad. My parents didn't want me to appear on the photo so I took pictures of stuffed animals. The video was too short so I added some pictures of how I view digitalization.

We like our technology as mush as we love our stuffed animals when we were little. Like little kids we are inspired easily by things we've never seen before, wanting the newest things that come out. We let ourselves cage in the digital world, zoned out as if your piece of the world has separated from everyone else. Sealed in a world where you can do what you want, have what you like. Being locked away we miss out on so many things, we're caged up in our world. Don't we get bored, every bird wants to be free so they can fly. If our lies pile up we may drown in them, the world is full of lies. There technology almost every where in this world, do it ever stop? If it does are we denying that time is moving forward? Not all of us want to be trapped forever in a perfect world, having the courage to pick and path that hasn't been taken before rather then taking the ones planned out for you are the greatest things. It's better to be free.
Hope you like it~

HW #7 We don't want standard answers!

I didn't know any questions that wouldn't give any standard answers so I asked questions about how technology may effect our future:
Tuesday

ayamexxmiki: What do you think will happen to humans if everything in the future was technology-based?

myst: I believe that if everything became that way, then humans would become helpless. If there was a malfunction in the program and the whole system went down, what would they do if it lasted for a month?

ayamexxmiki: If everything did become technology-based, won't that be just like the digital world? Will we yearn for the other world? When looking up to the moon I wonder why I am here and not there? when I look at the digital world I wonder why it is possible for our twins to live in that world and not reality? We yearn for the digital world and while our twin yearns for the real world.

myst: Maybe it would be like the digital world since many things are similar in both "worlds." Some of us will yearn for the other world but there are still those who become tired of these kinds of things after they obtain it. Even if your twin exists in the other world and not real, it is not real since it's created by another. A bond real twins share iis something a character online could never have or replace.

My thoughts:
People that pause before they say anything are thinking; they may not say every word they are thinking of but they are still thinking. Like that sentence you just read, if I don't think about what I want to write then I don't make any sense. Most of the time my mind feels empty when I'm talking, I don't understand why, it feels like I have no brain =.=

But I believe that when people have a lot to say they must have a good idea that they were thinking of. If a person were to repeat they must have stopped thinking (ie. like...like...like...ummm...like...). A person that has a good idea will try their best to expand their thoughts instead of walking around in circles. I believe that myst was thinking because I brought up a question that required taking stances in different views and considering the discussed situation.

Wednesday

The first person we interviewed we asked whether internet was a good thing or bad thing. He said it depends on how we use it. How many hours do you spend on the internet? 40hours a week for video gaming and internet.

We interviewed a lady named Shanna, we asked her "do you think people would be happier without digitalization?" I got really interesting answers and I agree that there are many things we just don't understand because we are born during the time of digitalization. Peoplewouldn't be able to live without it because we were born at such a different time that it has become a need of people older than us, it makes it easier for them and the system of how things operate is much more efficient. Kids don't really understand how hard it is to live without digitalization, we have the world at our fingertips. Parents had harder time adapting to all this technology, children are so mcuh more advanced, they're tapped in the world and into each other. Technology is non-stop. We can't live without the internet, every thing back then was so slow but now it's too fast, we have instant communications. If we, ourselves live a day without any of this then we would be denying that we're moving forward, if we don't adapt. In crowd places we close ourself off, we have this whole world in front of us, sometimes we should take the time to look up into the skies.

These interview helped me see a lot of things I haven't thought about. I grew up in Asia so where I live there was no technology at all. After coming to the U.S. the first technology I learn to use was the t.v. I can't understand the harship people back then had to go through but I think I know what's it like, I still lack many technology skills but I use the extra hours in my day to read the instructions and testing out whether I did something wrong or not. The internet in a way does shut us in a digital world, we miss out on all the things in life that we can't experience through the internet but we always realize this too late. With technology we zone out to a world where we can belong with all of our perfect fantasy but the world was never made perfect. When is comes to little questions like these sometimes people have seconds thoughts no always telling the truth like when we ask how many hours u spend on facebook/aim, they would stop and zone out then telling us 2-3hours. It's makes them sound like a perfect person, people spend so much time answering survey on the internet and yet they can't stop to help us, though I'm not much better than they are.

I'm really bad at doing interveiw and summing/writing these things up. Sorry for my inexperience and thank you to all those who we've interveiwed!

ayamexxmiki: Will humans be happy in a world without technology?

Itsuki: It really depends on how you look at the situation, which point of view would one look at during these times? I’m going to say that humans could be happy without technology but that doesn’t mean they will always be content with that. Thing is, a person can be happy regardless of what they say. It’s what they decide to do that decides the outcome. If a person decides to fight against having no technology and staying depressed about it until it comes back, they will probably have a poor outcome. Humans differ from person to person so it really depends.

ayamexxmiki: How hard do you think it was for people who weren’t born during the time of digitalization compared to those who were born during that time?

Itsuki: Well, let’s say that they’re better adapted to an environment— or world that’s without technology. Their life wouldn’t be that hard since in the past, people did everything without technology. The people living in times of digitalization would probably complain and tell them about their days of technology. The people would probably either a) not believe them, b) envy them, or c) not even care since they like their life as it is, et cetera. Basically, my point is again, it really all depends. Opinions, perspectives, point of views— call it what you will! Every person’s views differ from each topic to each truth. Seeing as to how technology has been a big influence, it has a great impact on the people who use it often. Of course, the latter generation (who may not use it, based on the given question) would be accustomed to none of the previous statements. Thus, the sustained answer would be, once more, it really depends when it comes to questions with several different perspectives.

HW 4 - Triangular Comments 1

Hi Rachel,

I thought your view on digitalization was very interesting, you put a lot of thought into your writing, relating it to how it affects people around our age. I agree that people strive for a better and faster world to live in as well as people becoming so close to technology as if it’s something they need rather than just something they want. People upgrade their items so that it's fast and more proficient. Another interesting thing I wanted to read more about was people facebooking; it’s human to want to cry for attention. After reading your view on facebooking, I felt like words that people can say easily online start to lose its meaning. For example, people are saying “I love you” online a lot — you can’t really get anything from this because you can’t really see the other person so when you hear it in the real world, it starts to lose its meaning.

People just want to think that they can’t survive a day without technology but that’s only because they’ve gotten so attached to it and rely on it so much that they forget the use of other things that can be used around them. Humans just find that electronics make life easier for them, like using music to control their emotions. Facebook helps people show a side in which they can’t show in the real world, sometimes traits of a person like kindness can’t be shown because they become big targets for bullies. People feel that using Facebook is a place where they can be themselves. T.V. is a way of escaping reality and all of the problems being forced on to them. People use technology to make time fly by so that we won’t have to live so many boring hours in a day.

I think you could make the paragraph on how people create a mask better if you use the quote from class so that we can see that many other people also agree with this statement. In class Cindy said that “You don’t get to show your emotions so it’s easier to lie,” this relates to the masked people created in your post. This also relates to what Andy said, “Representation Reality hollows the meaning in reality”.

I think it would be better if you use the technique we are learning in English with the synonyms because some of the sentences are repetitive. Another suggestion is talking about the human wants and needs because people don’t need 4 iPods, an iphone, 2 laptops and a computer. They could be like Jia Min who has 1 iPod and someone else who has 1 phone and 1computer/laptop. People shouldn’t waste money when knowing that there are others who could have made better use of it and save the injured/poor. Pardon my discourtesy. ><’’

Your post made me think a lot about the people I talk to online even though I don’t really know them; I spent hours in a day listening to their problems. I don’t think I’ve wasted those hours listening because I’m glad I was able to sit down and help that person. I’ve found many people online with problems by flipping through posts and looking at all the people who have to face hardships. I was thinking if this person didn’t have a computer to post these questions, then they might have been the one crying (I read a post about a girl who saw her mother with another guy and is worrying about whether she should tell her dad, ask her mom or do nothing). Everything has its positive and negative as well as technology.

Reading your post made me realize that digitalization isn’t really that bad, I’ve been looking at all of this with one eye. I agree with a lot of the things you said in your post and enjoyed reading it as well. I’m hoping to read more of your intriguing ideas. =^-^= Sorry for my super long response.

Hiya Jia Min!

There are many things I agree with in your blog like all the effects that digitalization can cause for the world. I think there is still a place without technology, but humans were meant to strive for the best so sooner or later they will eventually surrender to digitalization.
I can't see your main point since you tend to argue with yourself. Though it is a great thing that you can look in both directions at the same time but sometimes it best to look one way and argue. From your post I understand that there are pros and cons to all technology. Technology will continue to develop just as we learned in 10th grade the world is always looking for a way to upgrade itself.

People feel that technology makes it's easier for them and helps them keep up with the rest of the world. We're all like children, if we see something new, cool, better than before, etc. we want to get it. Is it human to be that way? Do people ever think about the harms technology cause for the environment? Humans are careless, when things go wrong they start to feel the guilt, if the world was perfect we would never know that what we're doing is hurting other people in this world. What's yours but also mine? The world is ours so we have to make it right.

Not to be mean! I'm just doing as told TT.TT I think you should proofread your writing since I didn't understand what you were trying to say till I read it again.(not saying I'm any better =.=) I think your post would have been a lot better if you had pick one side for your argument. Throughout the post I felt like you were trying to find a way to prove yourself wrong.

I would really much like it if you could talk about people in the digital realm, since not all of us spend time using cell phone or facebook. Many people post up problems and wait for a respond on how they should go on living a life they feel impossible, we can't always go face to face with people we know to talk about things like this.

Haiiiiiiiiiis Yu Xi!

I really like your post, can’t think of anything you can improve on though. I enjoyed reading about how all of the technology helps us and how the world has change from then. People feel a need for technology not realizing that they don’t need it at all. Digitalization is like a cheat sheet, it makes everything easier for you, so that you don’t have to worry about wasting your time.

I think the main point of your post is that things have change a lot throughout history due to the improvement with technology, the world is power advancing. All of this technology keeps us up to date with world event like what is the weather today and shows to occupy our time when we’re bored. Chatting through Facebook or aim makes things seem less realistic since we can’t see their real expression. Even though all this technology may seem good it also causes pollution harming our environment.

The more technology there is in this world the more we humans are harming it. For us to build technology I’m guessing that factories have to build for this kind of stuff and factories can cause air pollution. The technology we use like A.C. generates heat that can cause the melting of ice in the North Pole; if the ice were to melt it would flood cities and the heat could dehydrate people living in hot places.

I would like to see you write more about the cons about digitalization. I like the fact that you’re using evidence as well. There are some small grammars mistakes; I probably have plenty of them in this post. We all make mistakes (+w+). I don’t really know anything else you need to work on, sorry. =.=

Initial thoughts on Digitalization

People tend to spend hours on their computer looking for something to do. In the olden times we didn't have all of this technology, it was hard for many people but at least they would get up and do something rather then having electronics doing everything for them. In our culture we have our own ways of doing things like when we have to talk to each other we would decide a day to meet and have a chat but now we have phones so people get lazy just staying home and chatting through their cellphones or computer.

Humans are always finding a way to make things easier for the world but at the same time did they ever notice that all the things they are creating are also destroying the world. All of the technology create pollution like cars instead of walking or using bikes, the fuel from the car pollution as well as people building more and more factory causing air and water pollution. We even have an a.c. causing the melting of ice, while people from other continent are dying we're just hear relaxing and keep using these things as if we don't know that any of this is happening.
But digitalization isn't such a bad thing, we can help our friend that leave far away, and help people that call in for last minute help. The experience it gave me made me wanted the world more advance then it is but it'll take a long time for me to catch up.

Digitalization lets me talk to people that I don't really know, it can be dangerous but as long as you know what you're doing it'll be fine. People have a lot of problems and often post them on the web pages, I pass by a lot of them but I also stop to read other people point of view in life. If you ever read them, you'll notice that many kids are going through experience like finding out the truth about their parent's relationship and not knowing what to do, being afraid and many others things. These people need a lot of help and want to get advice but asking their friend might cause the situation to be more complicated, so having to ask random people that might have face this situation may or may not help. But at least it's worth trying than not doing anything at all.

Second life with digitalization can also help people understand who they are and who they want to be. Life never goes as people plan them too so many try to create a second life meaning another personality that they think might fit in with the people around them. In the end they mostly find out that the person they really want to be is themselves and no one in this world can replace them.

Digitalization

The digital world takes us far away from real life, sometimes used to escape the problems; we have to face in real life. Digitalization had advanced in a way of doing things and made life a lot easier for humans. But because of this change in the human life style, people become very lazy not wanting to do things, always looking for an easier to do things. Playing in the digital world has made me realize that some people treat it as second life a way to change what they don't like about themselves and trying to make a prefect being. The future is meant to be more advance than the past and this cycle will repeat over and over again.
